Webster City Community Schools

Backpack Food Program

*** NEW INFORMATION ***
Due to extenuating circumstances, the distribution of backpacks for the Backpack Program will be limited to those students who are in Pre-K through 4th grade, Wednesday, April 1st at the Webster City HyVee dining area from 11 am to 1 pm. Distribution for grades 5 through 12 will be announced at a later date. This announcement is for students who are enrolled in the Backpack Program through the Webster City Community Schools.

This message is for all of the families within the WCCSD that are enrolled in the Backpack Program. We are happy to announce that we have been able to set up an emergency distribution site and will be distributing backpacks during social distancing. In order to comply with the recommendations of social distancing, we will be distributing several weeks' worth of backpacks at once. The Backpack Program has also partnered with Iowa Select Farms to offer ham and bread in addition to the usual backpack items as well as coupon books to use in the coming weeks for additional food.

Our goal is for every child enrolled in the Backpack Program to receive their backpacks during social distancing. In order to do this, we have partnered with Webster City HyVee to utilize their dining area for an emergency distribution site.

Pick-up will be from 11 am-1 pm, Wednesday, April 1, 2020. This time has been selected to optimize availability for pick-up during work lunch hours for parents. Children do not need to be present to pick-up and you may send a friend or family member to pick-up on your behalf. Volunteers will ask for the first name of the child and their grade.

For families who are unable to pick-up your backpacks please contact me directly and we will arrange door drop deliveries between 1 pm - 2:30 pm. El traductor está disponible a su solicitud. Again, our goal is to ensure that every child has food during this time. My contact information is:

On behalf of The Backpack Program, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Webster City HyVee, Iowa Select Farms, The Food Bank of Iowa, Ted Larson, and the many volunteers who have stepped up to make this possible. Thank you to our families for being patient as we navigate these uncertain times. We are writing new chapters in emergency preparedness as these historic events unfold in our nation. We will continue to communicate with our families and the community as we all get through this together!

See you on April 1st!
